Ironman Cozumel was last weekend. Guess what...I didn't race that one either. Instead Amy and I opted to go to my parent's house AFTER hosting both fam damilys at our place for Thanksgiving. It was sans the brothers and sisters in law though as one is in Washington and the other was visiting Buda...but not the cute guy with a round belly.
We had a couple of folks go race Cozumel as well as another that I'd worked with in the past. 1st IM for one of our and 2nd IM for the other. We had one that met his goal...and beat a good friend and training partner. That's always good. The other was met with a bit of bad luck right at the start of the bike with a crash and then a flat 70 miles later. But, she soldiered on, fought through and was a little off of her 'PR' for the IM distance. Search for my PR post to see why I have ' ' around it.
So, it was another successful weekend for our folks. They are now (I originally had not, but that was a typo) enjoying a bit of downtime.
In reading their reports, I go back to something that I said in my Florida report and the Arizona report that I wrote that wasn't about my race. You give an athlete the tools they need to hit their goals. And, IM is a day filled with small decisions. And, it is about moving forward. Hopefully, the athlete won't mind, but this last paragraph was a good one.
"So I've asked myself questions like - Did I have a good time? Yes. Was the race hard? Yes. Was it as hard as I thought it would be? No. Would I do another one? Yes. Is it going to define my life? No. For now, the race was just a significant personal achievement in my life that took a lot of hard work and sacrifice. I do feel a great sense of accomplishment and realize that I'm part of a very select group of the population. I am an Ironman - but that distinction doesn't make me better than anyone else."
I haven't blogged quite as much lately. I'm taking a bit of a break so to speak. Working, coaching, and getting back into training. Working on the schedule for next year and another thing or twelve. Check back for an update in a week or two. Be safe.
