I have a small library of triathlon and running focused books. Time and again, I find that the best books on endurance training aren't really those that are published as training books. You know, books like "The Triathletes Training Bible", "Triathlete's Edge", "The Perfect Distance" (have not read it), "Going Long", "Training Plans for Triahletes", and a myriad of others. I will say that "Daniel's Running Formula" is one of the better ones in my opinion. That's not to say the others don't have their merits.
But, the books that I find most valuable as training books aren't training books at all. They are story books. The three that regularly come to mind are:
- Gold in the Water
- Running with the Buffalos
- Swimming to Antarctica
I have to add a fourth to the list...
- Born to Run
I'll post a review when I finish it...probably in a day or so. They are all story books that follow a person or a group of people or a team sometimes almost daily in their quest to be the best that they can be. Next time you are looking for a training book, pass by the normal ones and go pick up a story book. And, then "just get out and do something".
Happy New Year Ya'll!!

Born to Run is definitely one of the best running books I've ever read!
You are the fourth person to say they loved this book. I plan on picking it up. Kent and I really enjoyed Once A Runner and I just bought Kent the sequel Again to Carthage. (not yet read)
