BSLT 70.3 Race Report...Part 1

I'll start with this. It was a long drive after a very fun filled and cool Awards Dinner. Greer (Mike) and Marti continue to improve on a great event 20 years after it started. As I said, I first raced there in 1993 when it was an Olympic Distance race. I raced my first 1/2 Ironman there back in 1999.

Anyway, the short story is that even though this was the last of a series of races, I kind of felt a bit 'done' already. BUT, I was determined to take a risk or two and see how it went. End result 4th overall, basically the same time as last year on what I conider a more difficult day with a 'longer' swim because there were no running shenanigans.

More detailed report to follow, but here's a little bit of the Mac Davis song for you to reflect on...

"I still thought happiness
Was Lubbock, Texas
In my rear view mirror
My momma kept calling me home
But I just could not, would not hear her
And the vision was getting clearer
In my dreams

Well, I thank God each and every day
For giving me the music and words to say
I'd-a never made it any other way
He was my only friend

Now I sleep a little better at night
When I look in the mirror
In the morning light
The man I see was both wrong and right
He's going home again

I guess happiness was Lubbock, Texas
In my rear view mirror
But now happiness is Lubbock, Texas
Growing nearer and dearer
And the vision is getting clearer
In my dreams"

I guess you could say that yesterday, happiness was Lubbock, TX in our rearview mirror. Not because we were leaving Lubbock, TX...for some reason I like West Texas...but because we'd both had good races, were able to have fun doing it, and have been blessed with the ability to keep doing it.
