2009 Race Schedule

I'm getting closer. It's tough to figure out with so many good races out there. The season will be similar to last year with a 70.3 focus and an Ironman or two in there. I really want to do Ironman Wisconsin. It just seems like a cool race. The only problem is that it's late in the season. So, right now, here's what I'm thinking:

April 5 - New Orleans 70.3 or Lonestar 1/2 Iron Distance
May 10 - The Rookie Triathlon
May 17 - Florida 70.3
May 25 - CapTex (if non-drafting)
June 14 - Eagleman 70.3
June 28 - Buffalo Springs 70.3
August 2 - River Cites Sprint or Jack's Generic Sprint
September 7 - Austin Tri
September 13 - Ironman Wisconsin
October 18 - Longhorn 70.3

That gives me a good mix of local and 70.3 events. I've started the past 2 years with Cali. But, New Orleans and Galveston are closer. If I'm going to drive 3 hours or so to Galveston, I may drive 8 hours to NO and try to pick up some $$$ and race the best. I also get a nearly uninterrupted 8-10 weeks to build up for Ironman Wisconsin. Of course, it means that Kona will not be in the cards for 2009, but it might set me up really nicely for 2010 if things go as planned. And, a July Ironman can easily fit into the plan if the season somehow leans that direction.

Less procrastinating that's a resolution, right!? I'm doing that right now instead of biking. So, off to sit on the CompuT for an hour or so and do a 30 minute transition run after.

Brandon-

Maybe its because I'm such a tri noob but unless your already signed up and are fine with not then racing, how can you be on the fence about participating in a sold out race like IM Wisconsin?

...sans Austin marathon (and *maybe* a trail 50k on 3/1)the first part of my year will probably be filled with college cycling season etc. until I graduate in May and then start tri season with rookie/Captex.

Probably do the full texas tri series but I'd like to do another (my first..) 70.3 before Longhorn. would you recommend buffalo springs 70.3 or Kanas 70.3?

Re...IMMOO. That is one of the few benefits of racing as a pro. Generally we can enter 6-8 weeks in advance.

Re...Races. 4 hours difference or so of drive time. Lubbock is a pretty good race. I've heard the KS bike course is really tough. Lubbock will give you another 2 weeks after CapTex to fit in 2 more long rides and runs if you are worried about that. On the other hand, your finish might be better at KS since there are 2 other 70.3s that same day.

In your opinion will the CapTex Tri attract the field it usually does with the new format. It would be sad to see that race lose the pro showing that it usually has.
