Man, I've been busy lately, and I've got several blog posts that I want to post, but just haven't. So, I'll give a River Cities Race Report.
I won. Amy won. It was another couple double. Anyway, we headed to Shreveport, LA Friday and were staying at Diamond Jacks Hotel and Casino. My Baptist upbringing would have you stay far far away from gambling and such. I have to admit, that knowingly giving away money is not something that I'm a fan of. So, Amy and I set our limit at $50 for the 2 of us. The slots were a sure fire way to lose it. I lost $30 pretty quickly, but Amy had a good streak going and was staying even. She ended up getting about $80 ahead and stopped when she was $70 ahead, so we ended up covering my losses and our meal.
Anyway, to the race. Swim was hot...92-94 degrees and choppy. The bike course is awesome and I was flying. I don't know if it is the training, the bike, the wheels or all of the above. But, if there is a bike course record on this course, I set it. The run was good considering where I'm at right now.
Funny thing is that this was the 28th year. The posted all of the winning times in the race packet. I have 3 of them...now 4. This one was not my fastest nor was it my slowest. Have I slowed down since 1999 or so? I don't think so even though I was 1:20 faster back then. I do know what I biked and ran then. I biked about 2.5 minutes slower then and ran about 20 seconds faster then, so what gives? The swim is always the kicker. The swim and transitions might be different. The swim from about 1998 - 2000 was definitely short and the course record year was an 800m swim that took about 8 minutes...and I know that was short.
So, it was a good weekend. River Cities is definitely a sprint race that is worth doing. While Shreveport, LA is not the most awesome city in the world, Amy and I certainly enjoyed it. I guess we are pretty easy to please. Maybe it was just getting away for a couple of days.
Another post soon.
